YA Pride Month!
I just wanted to do a quick link to Malinda Lo's blogging on YA Pride or LGBTQI in YA lit.
As a not-straight person (I'm not sure if I'd label myself as queer or bi...I tend to think of labels as intrinsically restrictive and I despite them, but I do understand the benefit of them in situations like this, where claiming a community supports a community), this is an issue near and dear to my heart.
On my backburner:
A MG novel about a transgendered boy
A "new adult"/crossover coming out novel
For those who do NOT identify as LGBTQI, there's a blog post in the above link about whether "straight people of privilege" are "allowed" to write these stories. (answer: yes. And from me, for G'd's sake, please please do.)
